ReplyDeleteIn 1916, the Congress agreed to concessions with Muslim League. So the Lucknow Pact was drawn up in which Congress agreed for separate Muslim electorates,one-third of council seats for Muslims, and a need for majority approval for acts affecting a community.
ReplyDeleteThe Pact also included common demands to the British such as more seats in Councils, proposals to be binding, protection of minorities, and provincial autonomy. This was the first joint agreement between the two parties, which made the Congress accept that some form of partition was needed for a self-governing India.

ReplyDeleteIt was an agreement between the Muslim league and INC which was in 1916. The Muslim league was led by Jinnah and INC was led by Bal Gangadhar Tilak. The main aim of this pact was to present united front to the British government. The pact addressed the issue separate electorate for Muslims which was a key demand for Muslim league and ensured that Muslim representation in the central and provincial legislatures should be based on their population.
